I'm Just Going to Blog My Way Through This Covid Thing
So, ever since this enhanced community quarantine started because of the virus, I’ve felt like I have got something brewing inside of me and something I want to say about it. The truth is that there’s so much to say, I don’t know that I’ll even be able to put it all into words without going on excessively.
Around here, we certainly don’t have much to complain about. Of course, like many people we are going to be suffering the economic effects of this for a very long time. While I have been in business for a long time in one respect or another, I am still within the first year of launching the cosmetics brand. They say that the first year is the toughest. I have to admit, I am really feeling what a lot of first year entrepreneurs probably feel and I think there are many of us in the same boat. This has been a very bad year to start a business!
That said, this whole thing will cause us to re-evaluate what is important. My daughter just turned three during the quarantine. We didn’t have the birthday party that we wanted to have for her, but we are thankful that everyone under our roof is healthy. We know that many of the people who are reading this have been profoundly affected by this change in our lives and I certainly feel for them.
When we come out of this, we are going to walk into a different world. Our own lives will be forever changed. There are things that will remain but there are things that will be forever different. I’m thankful that makeup and cosmetics are things that may evolve over time, but will always endure. No matter how much we stay at home or how much business is conducted over the Internet, there will always be that love of things that are beautiful like cosmetics that I will love and I know that many others will continue to love as well.
Given that I have a little bit of experience as an entrepreneur, if I was to give any advice to people as far as how to handle this, it is to make the best of your time. That doesn’t mean that you necessarily have to be productive all of the time, it might be that you just get to spend more quality time with your family or your children. For me, that is certainly going to be a component of this, but I also want to sharpen the axe as the saying goes. For anybody who doesn’t know this whole story, it is a favorite of my Canadian husband. There is an older lumberjack who continues to outperform the younger lumberjack every day. When the younger lumberjack asks him how this is possible, the older lumberjack tells him that he spends 10 minutes sharpening his blade every morning. He can therefore get a lot more done in a lot less time.
But in that vein, I’m really working on getting to connect with my followers in a way that I haven’t had the time to do in the past. In the ‘New Normal’ in which we all will live, that is largely going to occur on social media and through various messaging platforms. Part of it is writing this blog. I’m a very private person most of the time, but somehow it seems that you can reveal yourself more easily when you are speaking through conduit like this. That, or when I’m talking about makeup or bags. Then, try to stop me!
So I’m feeling what a lot of people are probably feeling right now. I’m a little scared, I’m a little bit optimistic and I am a little bit thankful. The world has changed, there is no disputing that. How it will change, that is something that remains to be seen. I plan to hit the ground running.
Please tell me how you are. I would love to know how everyone is doing. Please also give me ideas on what kind of content you would like to see in these blogs.
I think it will also be fun to go back and read this in a few months or years from now. It will be an interesting way to remember how we felt at this time, not knowing exactly what is about to come.
